5 tricks to keep the house warm in winter

Today we present five tricks to keep the house warm in winter.

If the cold doesn’t stop and the price of energy keeps going up… something we’ll have to do!

At other times we have talked about how to save with heating, now we propose five homemade tricks to keep the house warm in winter for longer. Some of them are very simple, for example: placing aluminum foil or a reflective sheet on the radiator, and others will require some initial outlay, but it will be worth it.

5 tricks to keep the house warm

1. Aluminum foil or reflective foils

It is an easy way to avoid the heat loss of the radiators and that we can easily place at home as we saw in this Bricomanian briconser. It is the installation of a reflective panel for the radiator with which we will be able to project the heat into the room, preventing it from leaking through the wall.

2. Do not place furniture in front of the radiators, but if on top of

If we place large furniture in front of the radiators, such as the sofa, these absorb all the heat and do not allow to heat the room. However, when we have a high-ceilinged house, you can place a shelf on top of the radiator to better channel the heat. A shelf above the heating will cause the lifting of hot air to stop, especially if it is under a window.

3. Curtains, better thick

The window is one of the main causes of heat leakage. If we use curtains with thermal lining we will prevent the heat from escaping in winter and entering in summer. If not, we can always use thick curtains or cover the ones we have with polar or plastic materials. If the door opens and closes a lot in our house, thick curtains on the front door will prevent the cold from entering.

4. Take advantage of natural resources

If it’s sunny, let the light in the sale. It’s free! However, don’t trust yourself and open all the windows. Even if the sun’s rays come in, the outside temperature will still be lower than the one inside the home. However, once the sun goes down, close the curtains and if you use blinds, put them down as well.

5. Cover the air currents

Use weather on doors and windows to prevent air currents. On the floor, use carpets and if there are cracks or holes in the floor, it is not a bad idea to apply some padding on them as we saw in this other DIY tip.

And remember, the thermostat must be at the right temperature. In order not to waste energy the thermostat must not exceed 21oC, considered the ideal temperature. Although it is true that the temperature may vary from one room to another. For example, in the bathroom you can exceed this temperature up to 22oC and rooms that we do not use oscillate up to 18oC.
